DSA-LA members have been canvassing across the city for Raman since the endorsement, and the local chapter’s leadership opposed the National Political Committee stepping into the process.

“We’re relieved that the NPC is honoring the will of our members,” said Leslie Chang, a co-chair of DSA-LA.

Raman’s campaign didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.

Shabana Mahmood has watered down some of last year’s immigration plans after a backlash from enraged backbench Labour MPs and some of her cabinet colleagues.

But the package of proposals, outlined on Thursday, is still a radical hardening of the rules for those wishing to settle permanently in the UK. They will make people on lower incomes wait longer before achieving indefinite leave to remain in the UK, while people on higher salaries will find it easier.

Better late than never. It had seemed as if some apologies from the prime minister were more sincere than others. The one that he has planned to deliver for Britain’s role in the slave trade at the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Antigua fell on the right side of genuine. There had been no need to make one at that time. Indeed Kemi Badenoch saw it as a sign of weakness. There again, she would refuse to apologise for running someone over on a pedestrian crossing. Somehow it would have turned out to be the victim’s fault.

Differences in pay, however, should not determine how soon people can put down secure roots. The Home Office’s own figures suggest that a person earning £41,700 makes a similarly positive lifetime fiscal contribution as someone earning £50,271. But the former has to wait five years longer to qualify for settlement than the latter. It is only three years for foreign workers who make enough to be in the top 2% of earners – about £125,000.

There had been fierce criticism of the UK foreign secretary Ed Miliband’s decision in September to impose a trade ban and wider sanctions on illegal settlements, with some claiming it would drive Israeli voters into the arms of Benjamin Netanyahu.

Joe Rogan says he won’t be putting his trust in polls anytime soon.

On Saturday’s episode of the “Joe Rogan Experience,” Rogan blasted the idea of polls, arguing that only “fucking stupid” people with no lives agree to participate in polls.

Noting that he is part of the “intelligent group” that shuts down pollsters, Rogan continued, “Anybody with a life, anybody that has like a family and stuff to do, hobbies they enjoy, friends they want to hang out with, they don’t sit around answering some fucking poll.”

Rogan continued throwing barbs, telling his guests, comedian Francis Foster and political commentator Konstantin Kisin, “You’re literally getting the opinion [of] people so fucking stupid they answer polls.”

Rogan added: “That was my take on polls, always. I was like, ‘Here’s the problem with polls: Most people don’t answer polls.’ If somebody calls you up and says, ‘I’d like a few moments of your time to ask you a few questions’ — fuck you!”

Rogan’s take on polls came just days after President Donald Trump mocked the numerous negative polls about himself and his plummeting approval rating. During a campaign rally in South Carolina on Oct. 29, Trump dismissed polls as “phony” and “fake,” and blasted Wedgewood Polls after they admitted last month to using fabricated data in its surveys.

That poll may have been fraudulent, but Trump’s approval rating correctly sits at a meager 37% days before the pivotal midterm elections, according to a new real poll released by Emerson College on Friday.
