Belfast-filmed Blue Lights has come to an end and fans have issued a plea to the BBC. The fourth series of the much-loved cop drama reached its conclusion on BBC One on Tuesday, 3 November following six gripping episodes, which many binge-watched on iPlayer.
The synopsis for series four said: "Three years into their jobs as response officers, Constables Grace Ellis, Tommy Foster, and Annie Conlon are operating at their limit, facing a new threat on the streets that the police can barely control.
"Meanwhile, the murder trial of Gerry Cliff exposes a dangerous and long-buried secret that leads to chaos both inside the police and across the criminal underworld. As they grapple with big decisions about their future, Grace, Tommy, and Annie must find the courage to face the greatest threat they have ever encountered: the truth."
The concluding episode depicted the consequences of the blast at Katie's residence, while Gerry's testimony regarding state collusion was made public. It also verified Blackthorn's shutdown as the squad prepared for their futures at different stations - and Gracie said yes to Stevie's marriage proposal, reports the Mirror.
After the credits rolled, there was a short montage as the cast praised Belfast for being the perfect place for filming with Sian Brooke, who played Grace, saying: "Belfast is made of the best people. End of." While Stevie actor, Martin McCann, added: "Belfast is made of heart, soul... it's Northern Ireland you know, it's beautiful."
And viewers wasted no time in demanding a fifth series, which remains unconfirmed by the broadcaster. Posting on X, previously known as Twitter, one viewer stated: "I sincerely hope for more series of #BlueLights." A second remarked: "I will sign any petition to keep #BlueLights on air. It's the best show on tv."
Another contributed: "Hoping the storyline with station closure doesn't mean end of #BlueLights." And one noted: "Hearing this is probably the last series I'm gutted. I would literally pay to get more #BlueLights." Someone else penned: "I really hope we get another series of #BlueLights but I've read this could be the last one."
One praised the drama as "remarkable" expressing: "With all the British based cop dramas, finding a fitting end is tough but for the first time, a drama delivers 4 seasons and closes everyone's arc in the finale. It's superb! Even a tear and I'm not even mad about it! What a show!"
Another shared: "Series 4 of "Blue Lights" is done now and just as good as the ones before it. A top shelf production and always has a good storyline. Couldn't put the TV remote away."
While another contributed: "@BBC My life is empty, I just watched the final two episodes of the gritty police drama on @BBCiPlayer last night as I couldn't wait until next week to watch the final episode. Some great storylines and characters. We need more like this on TV."
