Chris Hansen Invites Robert Pattinson For 1-On-1 Interview After Controversial Film Portrayal

It’s usually a bad sign when Chris Hansen tells you to “have a seat” with him.

But rather than nabbing a suspected pedophile, this time Hansen is inviting Robert Pattinson to come on his podcast and talk about Primetime, the controversial flick where he portrayed the veteran journalist during his time spearheading NBC’s wildly popular To Catch a Predator.

“You know, it dawned on me the other day that there’s a guy who has been asked a lot of questions about me, and I’ve been asked a lot of questions regarding him. And that guy is Robert Pattison,” Hansen said on his Wednesday show. “Of course, you know he’s the actor who portrays me — or a character with my name, image, and likeness — in the movie Primetime. And I thought, wouldn’t it be great if Robert Pattison would have a seat with me and talk about all of this? ”

He continued, “So this is an open invitation for Robert Pattison to come on my show and talk about the movie, talk about his career. I know he’s a busy guy, I know I’m a busy guy, but Robert, come have a seat, anytime.”

Hansen even offered to fly to London, where Pattinson is shooting the next Batman movie, to do it.

His invite comes a month after Primetime hit theaters. Hansen scoffed when the producers asked him to sign a waiver to watch the movie before it came out, instead opting to watch it in on the big screen after it premiered. And he didn’t love it.

“It was so bizarre and so in and out of reality,” Hansen said in his review, moments after catching the movie in New York City. “It’s hard for me to — you know, obviously I’m not objective because the character is me, but it was so detached from reality or anything I’ve ever experienced, then or now, doing the investigations. I just think it’s — I’m not sure what the point of it was.”

Despite his thumbs down review, Hansen said he believed he and Pattinson could still treat viewers to an “engaging” conversation — if the actor takes him up on his offer.
