Incoming House Oversight chair vows 4 new probes into Trump administration
Rep. Robert Garcia, the presumptive chairman of the House Oversight Committee, said the panel would launch several new investigations into the Trump administration.
In a two-word statement released late Tuesday after the Democrats were projected to take control of the House, Rep. Robert Garcia, the presumptive chairman of the House Oversight Committee, stated: "Lawyer up."
On Wednesday, he expanded on that terse statement during a news conference in Huntington Beach, which is part of the district he'll represent in the next Congress.
"We should be very clear that the American people have spoken loudly and clearly - they want change," Garcia told reporters. "They are tired of the destruction and the corruption of Donald Trump and this administration."
Garcia pointed to Democrats' electoral victories nationwide as a mandate. He said the Oversight Committee will be focused on "four major areas" -- alleged corruption by President Trump and his family, "abuses" by the Department of Homeland Security and Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the handling of the Epstein files, and companies that he said are "ripping off" the American public.

Voters approve Prop 3, permanently extending a high-income tax
Californians have voted to approve Proposition 3, which provides permanent funding for schools and healthcare by extending a tax on high incomes.
With 99% of votes counted as of Wednesday morning, the measure has received 4,483,291 "yes" votes, or 59%.
Forty-one percent were against the proposal, with a total of 3,159,553 "no" votes.
The proposition "maintains $5 billion to $15 billion of annual state income tax revenue by making a temporary tax increase on high-income earners permanent instead of letting it expire in 2031," according to the state's official voter information guide.
Supporters included the California Teachers Association, CA School Nurses Organization, California State PTA, and Planned Parenthood Affiliates of CA.
The measure was opposed by the California Taxpayers Association, Family Business Association of California and the California Hispanic Chambers of Commerce.
