It is closing as part of a repairs and maintenance programme
A major Essex bridge is set to be closed causing delays for drivers. The tunnels and the bridge at the Dartford crossing are all set to close over the next week.
The Dartford Crossing links the counties of Kent and Essex by a cable-stayed, 137 metre high bridge. Drivers use the Queen Elizabeth II bridge for southbound traffic and two 0.8 mile long tunnels for northbound journeys. However, there are some closures that drivers will need to be aware of over the coming days.
These closures are necessary so that the programme of repairs and maintenance work in the area can take place. Work that has taken place recently includes "essential bearing replacement".
Over the next week, there are closures to both tunnels and the bridge. Luckily, all of these works are set to take place overnight to minimise disruption to drivers.
The closures are as follows:
- Saturday October 31 - QEII Bridge closure 9pm to 9am (no northbound access for vehicles over 4.8m)
- Sunday November 1 - Dartford east tunnel 10pm to 5:30am (no northbound access for vehicles over 4.8m)
- Monday November 2 to Friday November 6 - Dartford west tunnel 10pm to 5:30am
National Highways says: "Please remember that closures can change at short notice. You can check the latest information on our daily closures page. Our travel alerts give details of live incidents on our network."
