ATP Paris Day 3 Predictions

Nuno Borges vs Karen Khachanov

Head-to-head: Khachanov 2-0 Borges

Given a second chance at the ATP Paris Masters with a lucky loser spot, Nuno Borges put in a solid performance in his opening main-draw match. Now, he takes on Karen Khachanov, a player against whom Borges has historically struggled. The Russian’s counterpunching game is built around absorbing and redirecting pace on hard courts, while Borges is a player who relies on pace and power from the baseline. Khachanov is also the more consistent returner, and with these stylistic advantages, he should win this match.

Prediction: Khachanov in 3

Matteo Berrettini vs Ugo Humbert

Head-to-head: Berrettini 3-1 Humbert

Matteo Berrettini won arguably the match of the opening round, and he now takes on local crowd favourite Ugo Humbert. In similar conditions at this very tournament, Humbert went all the way to the final a couple of seasons ago. This match between two big-serving power players should come down to which of them remains more confident from the baseline. With his left-handed angles and the support of the entire arena, Humbert should have a slight confidence edge, which could very well prove to be the difference.

Prediction: Humbert in 3

Thiago Agustin Tirante vs Jan-Lennard Struff

Head-to-head: Struff 1-0 Tirante

One could very well argue that Jan-Lennard Struff is currently playing some of the best tennis of his career, as his game has adapted very well to the indoor hard-court swing. His opponent, Thiago Agustin Tirante, is a typical clay-court player who relies more on grinding out points. On the faster indoor courts at the ATP Paris Masters, Struff’s serve and forehand power should be too much for the Argentine.

Prediction: Struff in 2

Daniil Medvedev vs Ignacio Buse

Head-to-head: first meeting

A former champion in Paris, Daniil Medvedev has been playing more consistent tennis since the Asian swing and will be targeting a deep run at ATP Paris. In this match, Ignacio Buse will look to use his heavy topspin baseline game to push the Russian off the court and rely on his physical strength. However, that rarely works against Medvedev, who remains one of the best defensive players on hard courts. Combined with his serving superiority in this matchup and what should be faster indoor conditions, the Russian has a clear edge.

Prediction: Medvedev in 2
