Conor Benn targeted for another ‘sons of legends’ fight by US contender

Conor Benn could soon be involved in another generation-transcending rivalry, despite suffering a second-round stoppage defeat to Ryan Garcia in September.

‘The Destroyer’ was competing at 147lbs for the first time since 2022, when he tested positive for banned substance clomiphene, and seemed entirely out of his depth against the WBC world champion.

As a result, he is now expected to jump back up to middleweight, where he shared two 12-round encounters with Chris Eubank Jr last year.

The first time around, Benn lost a unanimous decision but, in their rematch, an out-of-sorts Eubank, who seemed badly affected by the weight cut, afforded his rival a wide points victory following two final-round knockdowns.

Elsewhere at 160lbs, meanwhile, Shane Mosley Jr – another son of a boxing legend – could represent a realistic opponent for the 30-year-old son of Nigel Benn.

Coming off a sixth-round stoppage of Serhii Bohachuk in May, Mosley is now gearing up to face former world champion Denzel Bentley this Saturday.

Speaking to RING CHAMPS, the 35-year-old American highlighted Benn, along with IBF world champion Aaron McKenna and middleweight contender Callum Walsh, as a potential opponent for 2027.

“I’m not sure how long I want to stay at 160[lbs for]. Obviously there’s a few guys like Callum Walsh, Conor Benn [and] Aaron McKenna – there’s a few guys that interest me.

“I’ll show you who got the better legendary dad [laughs].”

With both Benn and Mosley having recently fought under Dana White’s Zuffa Boxing banner – and the latter about to do so against Bentley – a middleweight encounter between the pair seems a realistic proposition.
