Disgraced businessman Salim Mehajer has been charged with domestic violence offences after being arrested at a cafe in Sydney's west.

The 40-year-old was arrested in Wentworth Point in the city's western suburbs around lunchtime on Wednesday.

Officers from the NSW Police Domestic Violence High Risk Offender team swooped, after an investigation into an alleged domestic violence incident.

Mehajer was taken to Auburn Police Station, where he was charged with various alleged offences.

They include domestic violence-related common assault, larceny greater than $15,000 and domestic violence-related "stalk/intimidate" and intending a person to fear physical harm.

Jewellery theft alleged

The ABC understands the larceny charge involves the alleged theft of $41,000 worth of jewellery.

Police would allege the woman gave jewels to Mehajer on a promise they would be returned as a wedding gift.

According to police documents, the woman then contacted Mehajer's father to ask about the jewellery, which allegedly prompted a phone call from Mehajer.

"From where did you get my dad's number, you slut? Why have you informed them with this," Mehajer allegedly said in a call.

"If you don't cut them from this problem I will bash you. You're playing with fire, you don't know who I am."

Mehajer's solicitor Mohommed Bazzi declined to comment when contacted by the ABC.

Judge Stuart Devine denied Mehajer's bail on fresh domestic violence related assault charges after his lawyer Mr Bazzi argued for his release on Thursday.

Judge Devine cited Mehajer's breach of parole on other matters, "his appealing record of dishonesty" and described him as "someone that can't be relied upon to comply with bail conditions".

Mr Bazzi told the ABC he would await to receive further instructions from his client.

"We respect his honour's decision and we have to move on,"

he said.

The court was told the woman met Mehajer in November last year when she worked as a florist in Bankstown.

Police allege that Mehajer regularly asked her for money and on one occasion allegedly asked her to loan some of her jewellery to cash converters.

Judge Devine also sentenced Mehajer to a three-month jail sentence for damaging a letterbox at a home in Lidcombe earlier this year.

In June this year, he was arrested for destroying a letter box at his old residence where he was still receiving mail, despite not having lived there for years.

The court heard CCTV showed him coming out of a silver car, bending and manipulating the letter box to retrieve a Macquarie Bank card sent to his old address.

Record of offending

The arrest comes after Mehajer was released on parole in July 2025, after spending years in jail for a raft of crimes. They included convictions for fraud, assault and domestic violence offences.

"I respectfully decline to comment, sorry," he told reporters at the time when he walked out of John Morony Correctional Centre near Windsor.

He was then bundled into a black Mercedes-Benz and driven away.

A court had previously heard Mehajer spent the majority of his time in protective custody at the jail.

He was set free after the State Parole Authority handed down a decision recommending his release, assessing him as having a "medium" risk of reoffending.

He had served three years and nine months of his seven-year sentence for domestic violence and fraud offences.

Mehajer first shot to notoriety in 2015 over his lavish wedding while he was deputy mayor of Auburn.

A street in Lidcombe was shut down for the event, which featured four helicopters and a fleet of luxury sports cars and motorbikes.

He angered neighbours when he sent fake flyers via a letterbox drop, warning residents that their cars would be towed if they got in the way.

The council later fined him $220 for closing off the street without permission.

In the following years he spent periods of time behind bars for corruption, assault, fraud and domestic violence offences.
