NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo reports that Joe Milton will be the Eagles’ starting quarterback in Week 9 against the Giants.

Milton, 26, has spent time with three different teams since the Patriots drafted him in the 2024 NFL Draft’s sixth round. He is a towering, mobile, cannon-armed quarterback with enticing traits. His erratic play can also be frustrating. Milton can be added in two-quarterback leagues, though his range of potential outcomes in his first start is extremely wide. He replaces Tanner McKee after a three-game starting stint.

Milton will join Tanner McKee and rookie Cole Payton on the Eagles’ 53-man roster. This move comes a day after it was revealed that Jalen Hurts would be out indefinitely due to a superficial blood clot that could sideline him for the next several weeks. Milton will likely serve as the Eagles’ emergency third QB on game days and seems unlikely to see any playing time at this point.

  • DAL Quarterback #10

Milton initially made the 53-man roster but was let go after the initial wave of waiver claims. He went unclaimed when waivers ran Tuesday and now returns to the Cowboys on the practice squad. With Sam Howell winning the QB2 job, Milton will be QB3 heading into the season.

  • FA Quarterback #10

He’ll likely catch on with a practice squad in the next day or two, perhaps with the Cowboys again. Milton had initially made the 53-man roster in Dallas but lost his spot when they claimed Emari Demercado off waivers. The 26-year-old has an arm that was made to play quarterback and a decision-making process that was made to play quarterback in 1975.

  • DAL Quarterback

This is mostly just a housekeeping item for dynasty managers, but re-draft managers can still file it away for a potential rainy day in Dallas. Things could change via the 2026 NFL Draft, but these two are set to duke it out for now. Milton flubbed his second-half opportunity in Week 18 last year, perhaps prompting the Cowboys to search for a more reliable No. 2 option. The team certainly has a type. Both Howell and Milton possess very strong arms, which should allow the Cowboys to continue attacking downfield if starting QB Dak Prescott were to miss time.

  • DAL Quarterback #10

A year after destroying the Bills’ backups in the final game of the 2024-25 season, Milton failed to deliver the same kind of fireworks here. He started the second half for the Cowboys and led five drives, only one of which resulted in points. He’ll finish the season 15-of-24 for 183 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions, while adding four rushes for 45 yards. He will return as Dak Prescott’s backup in 2026.

  • DAL Quarterback #4

He was benched with eight minutes left in the game and Dallas down by 27 points, Joe Milton led a touchdown drive with things out of hand. Both of Prescott’s picks were pretty weird, one of them by dropping edge player Deondrea Tillman. He was hit hard today, taking 14 pressures in 38 dropbacks per PFF. Obviously, this wasn’t the QB1 game you were promised — it didn’t look like the Cowboys had a real answer for their easy underneath stuff getting poached. Prescott will look to rebound in Week 9 against the Cardinals and should remain on the QB1 line.

  • DAL Quarterback #4

Testing the limits of what an all-Jake Ferguson offense could deliver to the world, one of Prescott’s picks deflected off George Pickens’ hands, and the other got him benched for Joe Milton in a 17-point deficit the Cowboys were obviously not overcoming. (Milton went 3-of-5 for 41 yards and a pick of his own.) The pass offense lost a lot of oomph without Lamb, and now Prescott gets to deal with an absolutely livid Packers front seven on Sunday night next week. If Lamb misses Week 4, it would be hard to fire up Prescott as more than a borderline QB1. The Dallas defense has forced plenty of passing situations for the Cowboys, as Prescott has 126 pass attempts in three games, but it would be a tough sell against a great defense.

  • DAL Quarterback #10

At one point, Milton was 3-of-10 passing. The second-year quarterback who took a sack for a safety on his team’s opening drive looked as erratic as we’ve seen during his time as a pro, and ended the day with an absurd 15.2 ADOT. Milton missed his intended target all night, with PFF attributing just one of his incompletions to a dropped pass. His best play on the night came on a 49-yard completion to Jonathan Mingo, but it’s hard to ignore what we’ve witnessed from Milton through two preseason games. He’s completed 26-of-47 passes (55.3 percent) for one touchdown and two interceptions, and has taken three sacks on 10 pressures. Thankfully for the Cowboys, Dak Prescott is healthy, but it may be time for the Cowboys to explore additional depth behind their QB1 after Milton appears to have reverted to the player we saw for parts of six college seasons.

  • DAL Quarterback #10

Milton also rushed for 22 yards on five carries. The 2024 sixth-round pick drew that start in Saturday’s exhibition, and limited mistakes for most of the evening, taking just one sack while throwing an interception that bounced off his receiver’s hands. His lone touchdown pass came on a seven-yard completion to Rivaldo Fairweather, who broke free from his defender in the end zone. Known for his rocket arm and erratic accuracy, Milton continues to impress when given the opportunity and should be in line for more playing time next Saturday when the Cowboys play host to the Ravens.

  • DAL Quarterback #19

The 2024 sixth-round pick made one appearance as a rookie, taking over for Drake Maye mid-game in a meaningless Week 18 affair. Milton played extremely well in his brief time in the spotlight, throwing for 241 yards and a touchdown while rushing for 16 yards and another score. The Pats signed Joshua Dobbs to a two-year deal in free agency, locking him in as the backup to Maye for 2025. In turn, the team got what it could for Milton and gave him a chance to be a QB2 behind Dak Prescott. With Prescott under contract through 2028, Milton doesn’t have much fantasy value, even in deep dynasty leagues.

NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo reports that Tanner McKee will not start in Week 9 against the Giants.

Joe Milton will start for the Eagles against the Giants this week. McKee’s time under center lasted three games. Unfortunately, he never once threw for more than 215 yards or threw multiple touchdowns. McKee can be dropped in two-quarterback leagues. Milton is a volatile QB2.

Drew Lock will start for the Seahawks in Week 9 against the Cardinals.

Sam Darnold is considered week-to-week with a quad injury. Lock himself is only barely healthy, having been relegated to emergency QB3 duties because of an eblow issue for the past two games. He’s clearly close enough to full strength if Mike Macdonald is willing to name him the starter on Wednesday. He did note that Jalen Milroe will also get some reps in practice this week. Lock threw for 422 yards and four touchdowns in a little under two full games earlier in the year. Facing a weak Arizona defense, Lock is in the QB2 mix for Week 9.

Seahawks coach Mike Macdonald said Sam Darnold (quad) will not play in Week 9 against the Cardinals.

Per Macdonald, Darnold also suffered a rib injury early in the team’s Week 8 loss to the Bears, though that doesn’t appear to be the reason he’s out this week. Darnold is considered week-to-week. Per Macdonald, he won’t go on injured reserve. It’s possible this quad issue is related to the glute issue that sidelined Darnold earlier in the season. Either way, Darnold’s health concerns are now becoming an issue for a Seahawks team that was already struggling to live up to the hype. Drew Lock will draw the start versus Arizona this week. He’ll likely start in Week 10 as well. With two successful appearances under his belt this year, Lock is a somewhat safe QB2 bet for Superflex managers.

Packers designated Chris Brooks (ankle) to return from injured reserve.

Brooks is back at practice and could be officially activated from IR ahead of the Packers’ Week 9 matchup with the Patriots. He would likely take Pierre Strong’s spot in the lineup as Green Bay’s RB3.

Emeka Egbuka (foot) did not practice Wednesday.

Egbuka missed Week 7 with a concussion and a foot injury. He cleared the league’s concussion protocol last week, but the foot issue kept him on ice. A DNP today suggests he will miss another week. However, head coach Todd Bowles told reporters Egbuka worked off to the side today. The team will see how he feels tomorrow. That leaves the door open for him to play, but fantasy managers should at least have backup options in place. If he does suit up, Egbuka would be a high-risk WR3 versus Chicago.

Liam Coen said Bhayshul Tuten (foot/ankle) will be a game-time decision for Week 9 against the Ravens.

Tuten did not practice on Tuesday. Coen told reporters he would get in a limited session today. Tuten himself told Coen he feels better today and he toughed it out through the injury on Sunday. He appears to be on the right side of questionable for Thursday’s contest, but fantasy managers will want to check inactives before kickoff to be sure. If he can’t go, Chris Rodriguez will get the bulk of the carries for the Jags.

TreVeyon Henderson (illness) did not practice Wednesday.

It’s rare for a player to miss even one game with an illness. It’s even more unheard of for them to miss the next practice. It’s possible Henderson is dealing with something more severe than the flu or a stomach bug. If he isn’t able to play in Week 9, Rhamondre Stevenson will handle the bulk of the backfield touches once again. He touched the ball 22 times on Sunday and would be in line for a similar workload against the Packers.

    Player Stats

A.J. Brown (knee) did not practice Wednesday.

Brown’s recurring knee issue flared up during practice last week. He was downgraded to a DNP on Thursday and Friday. The Pats then ruled him out over the weekend. Brown has been dealing with this injury for years, and it was something the Pats acknowledged when they traded for him in the offseason. It wouldn’t be surprising for the team to give him multiple weeks off in preparation for a playoff run. Head coach Mike Vrabel sidestepped a question about putting Brown back on injured reserve. At a minimum, we’re not expecting Brown to suit up this week.

  • Green Bay Packers Primary Logo GB Defensive End #1

    Player Stats

Packers head coach Matt LaFleur said Micah Parsons (knee) is a “full go” to do individual work at practice.

That doesn’t mean Parsons is a “full go” for Week 9 against the Patriots, however, as the pass rusher comes back from a season-ending knee injury in 2025. Parsons could return soon for a Green Bay defense that ranks 12th in pressure rate and 16th in quick pressure rate on the season. Look for the team to ease Parsons into action to make sure he’s OK for the final stretch of the regular season.
