KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - Months after surviving a life-threatening shooting at her home, Mia Bieniemy is hitting major milestones in her recovery — and even getting back on the road.

Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy shared an emotional, uplifting update on his wife, telling reporters she recently traveled out of town for an annual weekend getaway with Chiefs coaches’ and players’ spouses.

“You know what, she’s doing great. She actually went on a trip this weekend. She was on the wives’ trip. She was a rockstar,” Bieniemy said. “She’s doing great. I appreciate you asking about her. Her rehab has been going great. She actually had an opportunity to come out here and hang out, and I’m sure I got on her nerves.”

The encouraging progress marks a dramatic turn since late July, when Mia was critically injured in a shooting at the family’s Northern Virginia home. The traumatic incident rattled the Chiefs organization just as training camp opened, prompting an outpouring of prayers and support across the NFL.

Bieniemy went on to say physical rehabilitation is paying off and Mia is returning to team life and spending time alongside her husband in Kansas City.

Eric Bieniemy made sure to thank fans and the Kansas City community for keeping his family in their hearts.
