BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) -- The YouTuber who goes by EDP445 has been charged with multiple felonies in connection to allegedly trying to meet an underage girl in Bakersfield for sex.
Bryant Turhan Emmerson Moreland, EDP445's real name, was charged Monday with attempted lewd or lascivious acts with a child under 14, going to an arranged meeting with a minor, contacting a minor with sexual intent and sending pornography with the intent to seduce a minor, according to court records.
He was arrested Wednesday in Las Vegas with assistance from the Las Vegas Police Department and will be transported to Kern County, according to a release from the Kern County District Attorney's Office.
Moreland made a name for himself with online rant videos, mostly about the Philadelphia Eagles.
Then in 2021, he allegedly attempted to meet a 13-year-old girl at the Pineridge Apartment Complex in east Bakersfield.
A documentary released this year titled "The Sick Mind of EDP445" delves into that incident, one of two vigilante online sting operations against Moreland.
In one scene, Moreland is interviewed by Chris Hansen of "To Catch a Predator" fame.
"I showed up that day trying to meet up with an underage girl," he tells Hansen.
Prosecutors say an investigation into Moreland stalled in 2021 due to lack of cooperation from the reporting parties. The case was reexamined after the documentary was released -- with Moreland's statements providing the evidence prosecutors needed.
"Following its review of the new evidence, the District Attorney's Office determined that the evidentiary threshold for filing criminal charges had been met," according to the news release.
Mike Clum, the documentary's producer and director, told 17 News earlier this year all proceeds from the film are being donated to RAINN, the largest nonproft helping victims of sexual violence.
